At European level, the private commercial banks' Ombudsman is part of FIN-NET (Consumer Complaints Network for Financial Services), which was launched by the European Commission on 1 February 2001. Since then, 43 accredited financial services dispute settlement bodies have joined the network (among them Italy's “Ombudsman Bancario”, Spain's “Banco de España Servicio de Reclamaciones” and the UK's “Financial Ombudsman Service”). FIN-NET members provide assistance to complainants in cross-border matters by directing them to the dispute settlement body responsible for them.
